DID YOU KNOW...?

The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana recently unveiled a new ambulance simulator for their EMT/Paramedic classroom on the U of A Texarkana Campus.  The simulator is a scaled replica of an ambulance that allows students to obtain hands-on experience right in the classroom, giving the student unique opportunities to test their knowledge and skills under different medical scenarios that can be simulated using a simulation “manikin” as the patient.  Funding was provided by a recent award of a Blue and You Foundation Grant for $40,450 through the  University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Foundation. Congrats to all.

Stepping Up to
Make a Difference
NICK BLAIN

Nick Blain believes leadership is the “art of leading individuals and/or organizations from one point to another while at the same time allowing them to assume ownership in the journey, to establish a vision, mission, … and beliefs… Leadership is to know when to lead, when to follow, and when to get out of the way in order for a positive progression to occur”.
...more than a definition from an educator... This is a code that Nick Blain lives by.

A T-TOWN TOP TEN

  • Broadway at the Perot!  The Travolta movie classic Saturday Night Fever comes to the stage in downtown Texarkana in a spectacular new national touring production at the Perot Theatre.  Packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) said “this show will blow you away.”  Thanks TRAHC!  Feb 27  For details.

  • Nothing for our kids? NOT!  Silvermoon Children’s Theatre offers an entire world of performing arts... by kids, for kids - in the wonderful new theatre at Silvemoon on Broad.  Take all the kids and enjoy Shrek the Musical–it’s life training in disguise. Try it, you’ll like it! Feb 25-29  Find out more.

  • Be on hand for a screening of the documentary “The Jamison Building: History of an African-American Landmark,” at the Texarkana Museums System’s  Ahern House on Laurel Street, Feb 27. Reception 9:30 a.m; film at 10 a.m. FREE and open to the public. A companion exhibit: “The Jamison Building: A Community Legacy” is at the Museum of Regional History through March 12. • Unleash your inner animal, or at least your man’s best friend, at JefFURson Dog Park, across from Arkansas High School. With roaming grounds for canines of every category, your pooch and you are sure to leave smiling.  Any day. Free.
    Details.

  • Take a breather for your health on the walking trail at Texarkana College.  Trek the half-mile marked loop once or twice while on your way from here to there during any work day, enjoying the unbeatable weather in Texarkana USA.
No excuse exercise that fits into any schedule. Read more.

  • Never buy another video game. Send your kids (7-18) to the Financial Literacy Workshop: “Investing Pays Off, It’s Never Too Early to Start” and they’ll learn how to save up their own money, so whether they decide to buy the newest Legos Star Wars game for PS5 or XBOX720, or when they decide to start their own business out of college - they won’t need a million dollar loan from Mom & Dad. They’ll thank you when they’re in Fortune 500.  TAMU-T Community PLACE Feb 27   Read more.

  • Browsing for a good read.  Friends of the Library Bookstore is hosting a book sale Friday & Saturday from 10:00a–2:00p. Even if you’re not currently in a stage of your life where you read for leisure, buy a dozen books and stick them in the entertainment center underneath your television. Your self-respect will skyrocket; after all, now you’re someone who could read a book, their own book. Great buys. Bring books to donate.  Supports Texarkana Public Library, a community success.

  • Nurturing nature: Rocky Point at Lake Wright Patman is a vacation in your backyard with cabins, tent sites, and RV hookups available, you’ll forget that you’re only a few miles outside of Texarkana city limits. There are plenty of locations to fish from the shore or boat docks if you’d prefer to navigate the lake.
